Alona Beach  : The Boracay of Bohol

If you find that going to Boracay from Dumaguete takes forever ,try going to the Boracay of Panglao ,only one hour and a half by fast craft plus another 25 minutes by land. The beach is almost as fine and not quite as  white but long enough for  beach combing.

Panglao Island  is a two municipality island connected to Bohol mainland by a land bridge. Dauis is the first municipalit ,where the Panglao Nature Island Resort is located and which I wrote lengthily about last week. Panglao is the second municipality of the island and it is on the western end, which explains the white beaches which are longer than those found on the eastern side.

All Alone on a  Loboc River Cruise

The sea ,  rivers , lagoons , creeks and fishponds  have always been part of me ever since I can remember.

Even before I learned how to walk ,my past time was to sit by myself on a maguey mat on the beach staring out into the sea. Unbelievably immobile in the vastness of the sea and sky ,my brothers tell me  that my parents would move the mat farther from the water as the tide  came in.  No I have no memories  of it, but I do have a photo to prove the blissful moments  on that maguey mat on the beach

Panglao Island Nature Park

At this time of the year when typhoons come one after the other with the Southwest Monsoon  or Habagat , the best place to be  is the Panglao Island Nature Park.

Pretty sheltered from the monsoon wind , the water is placid, ideal for swimming or just dipping  for that salt water cleansing you long wished to have. You can be out all night in the beach without fear of  being blown away by the  strong Southwest Monsoon
